WE HAVE COMPLETED OUR BACHELORS!!! We can finally say it out loud! After almost 3 years down under, 24 completed subjects, countless lectures and hours in the library, we have reached the target we set almost 5 years ago when we were still in high school. The only thing remaining is to receive the papers at the graduation ceremony in a few weeks. But we’ll have to bring you through the month that led us here before going more into it.
The month started where the last one concluded, in the library preparing for our exams.
After we had both submitted our Sports Coaching papers, Karoline started studying for her two remaining exams, whereas Fredrik started writing his second paper in Managing Strategic Change. All our exams went well, and we have passed all of them, resulting in us being ready and lined up for graduation! Now we can just sit back and relax the break 😀 After Fredrik finished his last exam (and Karoline had been free for a week), we went to the restaurant Supernormal for a propper celebration dinner. The girls in our soccer team are so lovely, and they gave us a banquet voucher at that place. Finishing our degrees was a perfect occasion to redeemed it. We got 8 different courses including fresh-water lobster from WA, slow-cooked Japanese lamb, kingfish, Szechuan chicken, lobster and dumplings in addition to dessert. A worthy ending to 16 years of education.

Despite being busy with exams, we made time for some other things too. Firstly, we went to the Jon Bellion concert for his first-ever show in Australia. He was sooo good live, and the crowd was ecstatic. He even got peer-pressured into doing a “shooey” on stage, and he did it! After Karoline’s last exam, it was time for the second concert of the month, this time with U2. Safe to say that it was another tick on the bucket list, as we got to view or rather listen and understand why they are regarded as one of the best bands ever. Despite the band living up to the hype, the crowd was rather dull and were far from what can be said about the Jon Bellion fans. Most of the people at this concert were older and stood dead quiet during most of the show. Anyhow, it was an unforgettable experience and another small highlight from our time in Melbourne.

Besides that, we still play summer 7s with our Pepper-pals every Monday. The other teams are probably a bit more serious about it than we are, as they are maximising the guys on the pitch at all times. We, on the other hand, are more relaxed and rotate around, focusing more on giving fair game time and having fun. We have lost all our games, but it’s ok, we enjoy playing together in the sun anyways. Additionally, we have been throwing a bbq in the park with ANSA and played laser tag in Karoline’s friend’s birthday. Karoline had such a great time, running around like James Bond while zapping the opponents. Lastly we attended the Melbourne University Soccer Club AGM where Karoline was once again elected treasurer for another term.

The last couple of days we have just chilled now that the exams are over. We have finally had time to do some errands while running around in the shops to find the perfect Christmas gifts. It is almost busier now than it was during the exam period because when one has exams one only has to focus on the exam. However, now there aren’t any good excuses one has to just do what one gotta do. We have also had a chill time though. We rode our bikes to the beach and another day had a chill time at Carlton Baths to cool down in the heat and get some tanning done before the winter darkness awaits in Norway. Additionally, we went to Mornington with Celina to see the Flinders Rock Pools and “London Bridge”. After looking for it for hours, we gave up as we had to head back to the city for another appointment. Turns out though that we had been there in the high tide and the rock pools could only be spotted in the low tide. Oh well, we’ll have to try again another time then, haha.

Nowadays, everyday life has turned upside down as we suddenly are three people in our apartment. Romek (Karoline’s dad) has come to visit so the last couple of days have been filled with trips around Melbourne. We started with a Christmas market at the Swedish church in Toorak, then we went to Moonlit Sanctuary before heading down to Phillip Island to watch the Penguin Parade. Today, we have been eating breakfast at Hash, walked around in the city and looked at the main tourist attractions, and watched a movie about Australian wildlife at IMAX. Now, the bags are being packed because Karoline and Romek are travelling to Uluru tomorrow morning before Fredrik meets them in Adelaide on Thursday to head down to Kangaroo Island. However, there will be lots of information about this trip in our next blog post!

That was all for us this year. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all. We’ll be back next year (/month hehe). Until then, have a wonderful time with friends and family.

This time we went to another waterfall called Tad Sae. It was nowhere near as nice as Kuang Si. Actually, you could barely call it a waterfall because it has been so dry for way too long. For our convenience, the fact that it wasn’t raining despite being in the middle of the rain season was great. However, it is pretty scary that the rain, which is key in the local food production and economy, is absent. On our way home from Tad Sae, we visited Pak Ou Caves which is a cave temple that is said to have been active in several hundred centuries. Besides our excursion, we went walking around the town every night, with Karoline picking up a new item to buy at the local market every night. We also found a place which served all you can eat veg buffet every night for only $2, what a deal!! Luang Prabang got a worthy conclusion when we watched the sunset on top of the temple rising above the city.

The reason for our untraditional choice of Chiang Rai is because the student association we are a part of is supporting a children’s home in this city. Our mission was to visit them and document what they are doing, to hopefully be able to motivate the different local chapters in Australia to keep up the good work and collect money for them. The day with the manager was filled with impressions. We started off eating at the BaanChivitMai bakery, before driving into the mountains to a small village where some of the kids at the children’s home are from. We then continued on to a student home. Here live some of the kids that were living at the home but are now too old to live there and who are studying at university. We ate some dinner with them and listened to all their stories about how fortunate they are to be in this situation. On the way back to the city and children’s home vi visited one of the famous local temples to get a sense of the culture. Our last stop was the children’s home where we played and spent a few hours with the kids before having dinner. And that was everything we could fit into our one-day intensive visit to Chiang Rai.
